Overview

Connective is a modern communications organization that supports distributed teams through cloud-based collaboration tools, including video conferencing and virtual phone systems. The company operates with a fully remote workforce spanning multiple time zones and relies heavily on its proprietary video conferencing platform, Cloudcord, for both internal collaboration and client-facing demonstrations.

Training Needs Analysis

The following competencies were identified as critical for new sales hires:

  1. Use Cloudcord to demonstrate product functionality to potential clients

  2. Clearly explain the benefits and value proposition of the platform

  3. Accurately answer customer questions about features and use cases

  4. Guide prospective clients through the transition to Cloudcord

Training Goal

Within four weeks, new sales team members will complete Cloudcord onboarding training and
demonstrate proficiency by scoring 90% or higher on a product knowledge assessment and
successfully completing two mock sales demonstrations following the completion of
self-paced virtual modules.

Interactive Lesson: Understanding Digital File Types

Overview

This interactive slideshow introduces learners to common digital file formats used in media production and design. The lesson was created to help beginner learners understand the differences between file types such as JPG, PNG, GIF, and PDF and when each format should be used.

The module uses visual examples, guided explanations, and interactive prompts to help learners build foundational digital media literacy.

The Learning Challenge

Students beginning digital media courses often struggle to understand file formats and when to use them.

Many learners recognize file extensions but lack an understanding of how compression, transparency, and image quality affect media projects.

Without this knowledge, students frequently export files incorrectly or choose formats that reduce quality or compatibility.

Instructional Design Approach

This lesson was designed using principles of visual learning and interactive multimedia instruction.

Key design strategies included:

Visual comparisons
Side-by-side examples help learners see how different formats affect image quality and transparency.

Chunked information
Concepts are introduced one format at a time to reduce cognitive overload.

Interactive engagement
Students are prompted to identify file types and predict which format should be used for specific scenarios.

Instructional design focuses on intentionally structuring learning experiences so learners can build knowledge and apply skills in real-world contexts.

Outcomes

Students demonstrated stronger understanding of file formats during media projects and were better able to export files correctly for different purposes such as web publishing, presentations, and design work.

The interactive format improved engagement and helped translate technical concepts into visual, practical examples.

Presentations: Let's Create a Film Pitch
